Veneto Wines

The Tre Venezie (the three Venices) are three regions in the Northeastern corner of Italy that were once part of the Venetian Empire. These regions, including Veneto, produce some of the most popular wines in and outside of Italy.

Veneto is an Italian wine region where wine drinkers were introduced one or two generations ago with a trio of popular wines. One of those wines is the famous Bardolino. Bardolino DOC is named after a village that sits on the edge of Lake Garda, near the city of Verona. This wine is lighter than another wine from the region, Valpolicella. It is refreshing when served cooled during warm weather. Another type of Bardolino is the Chiaretto, a rose, which highlights the vivacity and charm of the Bardolino.

What is Amarone? Amarone, or Amarone Della Valpolicella DOCG, is a variant of the Valpolicella red wine from the northeastern part of Italy east of Lake Garda. The variant is richer and one of Italy’s most popular full-bodied red wines. Amarone is made from the same native grape variety as Valpolicella but the ripe grapes dry indoors on mats for several months before fermentation which concentrates their sugar and flavors. The difference in processing creates a richer and more potent long-lasting wine. One of the best producers of Amarone is Monte del Fra Winery in Verona, Italy.
